What is it?

The Cinematic Time Machine: A Feminist Film Club is an online movie club celebrating the movies of yesteryear, but specifically those written, directed, produced by and starring women. We watch a diverse range of classic films and discuss women’s contributions from a feminist perspective.

How it works

🍿 Once you join the club, one of the first things you’ll be asked to do is join the community, so you can dive in to the chat and access all of the previous months movies and recipes.

🍿 Every quarter we pick a genre to enjoy. Starting with comedy.

🍿 And then each month you will receive a movie choice within that genre carefully selected to highlight one of the amazing women who created or starred in it. The pick will come in a pdf format with links to rent/buy online.

🍿 A live watch-party for the selection on the last weekend of the month.

🍿 A Mid Month Mini which is an extra, movie recommendation, just for fun, in the middle of the month. This time it’s a female focused silent short film.

🍿 Plus you’ll receive recipes for a snack and a drink (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to match the movie.

🍿 Access to an ever growing Secret Library of Stars, mini biographies.

🍿 The movie selection and accompanying pdf factsheet and recipe cards will be posted in the community each month as well as emailed to you, so it’s introvert friendly too.

🍿 Membership Card, and stickers, in the post.

What we’re watching:

January: The Hitch-Hiker (1953) the first American film noir directed by a woman.

February: Laura (1944) A Classic film noir focused on a female protagonist.

March: Women’s History Month opens our Adaptations theme with a celebration of ‘Little Women’ - all four versions (1933, 1949, 1994 & 2017)

April: Truman Capote’s classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) starring the timeless Audrey Hepburn.

May: The Oscar winning adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca (1940)

June: Stormy Weather (1943). An all-Black MGM musical! From the ‘40s!

What Others Say:

It has inspired me to watch classic films on a more regular basis, and I’m discovering new to me films, too. I would recommend it to anyone interested in adding more film viewing to their life, or who wants to learn more about classic films. A community helps make it happen, and is fun, too!“ - HP.

Why is it feminist?

Because I am. I can’t separate my belief in equality from the way I view movies so I figured if I want to watch old films from a more modern perspective there must the others who do too. So why not unite and enjoy it together!

Know you’re going to love it? Join us today for a whole year and let the magic of the silver screen transport you to a world where women’s contributions to film are celebrated and cherished.
